Default New motor change-out

Just started to change out the motor on my '75 convertible. I can't believe how tight it is under the car, I got the drive shaft out and decided to cut off the old b.s. exhaust but there's still not too much room. Do you have to be a magician or what? Anyway I've got the shifter disconnected and the trans supports out, can't get the shifter out even when jacking up the trans. The shifter bracket is in the way. All the books I got say disconnect the shifter from the bracket, good luck, I can only see the bolts, let alone get a wrench on them. I think the linkage/shifter will come out after I pull the engine and trans. Don't have a problem with this as long as everything goes back in the same sequence. I think the guys who wrote the Chevy manuals were on something.

You don't need to do all that to swap motors, just unbolt the bellhousing and leave the tranny in the car

Gotta pull the trans, linkage and clutch. The motors got 93,000 on it who knows how the clutch and flywheel look although leaving the trans in the car is certainly something I might use at a later time. Never thought of that.

Clutch and flywheel come out attached to the engine, tranny stays in the car
