Plans are made, all parts are here and I am going to put my new 383 together this weekend. been collecting parts for to long. Pulled the bag off of the block and I have Rust! Not pits, but small brown spots on the cylinder walls and on the deck. I am looking for suggestions. Should I just clean and assemble? I tried to clean with a spray lube. The spots lighten but don't go away. Should I have the block re-honed? I know I am going to get asked why I let this happen. I thought the block was coated heavy enough. The machine work was done a couple of years ago and the block was still perfect 4 weeks ago.
Should be fine. Clean the cylinder walls with automatic trans fluid. Keep going until the rag comes out clean. Tranny fluid is designed to keep dirt suspended so it will take it off the walls and leave you with a clean cylinder wall. It is amazing how much junk is left on the walls after machining.
