When I get my car painted, before the interior goes back in I want to insulate with dyna-mat or something similar. Has anyone done this in their vette? How many sq. ft. does it take to do the floor, luggage space and doors? Know of a brand that offers better quality or value? Best place to get the stuff? Mostly interested in sound dampening qualities, although heat barrier would be good too.
Let me know guys.
I think Dyna-mat is primarily used for sound insulation and stereo installs. I'm not sure how well it insulates against heat which I assume would be your first concern. You can go to my website and look in the Workshop. I have an article on insulating the cockpit that should help. Good Luck.
Try a website.................. http://www.b-quiet.com. From what I understand it is considerably less expensive than Dyna-Mat. I have my doors covered with b-quiet and I don't get that big/hard bang when closing the doors. Sould help with un-necessary vibrations from the 2 12's in the back. :D
Just checked out your insulation install on your website. Very professional job. Thanks for detailing this for all of us. It will certainly help alot of folks. Take care.
Glad it was of some use. I've been talking with a couple of people about it and the product I used is no longer carried in the Jegs/Summit catalogs. Jeg's carries a product called Thermo-Tec which looks the same but seems to cost more than what I paid. If you go to J C Whitney's site ( http://www.jcwhitney.com ) and do a search on insulation you will find a group of products that you should be able to use to get the job done.
I did the entire inside of the car with Dynamat Xtreme. I am very pleased! The Xtreme is thinner (.044 thick) but about 3 times as efficient with sound deadening as the standard stuff. Doors, firewall, foot wells, under console, luggage area, under rear deck, wheel arches, storage compartments, etc. It is very, very good for both sound and heat. Bought in 36 sq. ft. boxes @ $170 each. I needed 2. I purchased through Summit, but I have seen the stuff for as low $150 per 36 sq. ft. The bubble insulation still allows body panels to resonate, the Dynamat stops it. Tapping on Vette body panels is like tapping on a drum. When you tap on panels with the dynamat on the other side is like tapping on a sheet of lead, without the weight penalty!
