Yesterday for the 1st time my brake light came on when I started 77 L48. I stopped checked parking brake and pumped brakes a few times and it went out. Started it later that night, same thing. Started it a couple other times (getting gas, going to dinner, going to friends) and it didn't come on. Last time I started it it sayed on a few miles then went out.
Just checked the master cylinder resovior and both side equal and about 1/2 inch from top.
What would cause this, does not appear to be any leaks under it on garage floor? Air in brake lines? Car stops fine, solid brake pedal.

You probably have a little air in one of your calipers.Bleed them and remember which one had air and keep an eye on that caliper for leaks or a repeat of air getting in.
switch in proportional valve getting stuck or off center will turn this on. also switch on park brake handle under tunnel will turn this on if not adjusted.
both brake lines go to it from the master cyl. ~4" in front and ~4" down from the M/C. It looks like an proprotioning valve but is actually just a distribution block the center lead hooks up to it.

There is your proof, it is a distribution block/pressure differendial switch.
