I keep burning up spark plug wires on my 81, I have the factory exh manifolds, and I have been using cheap aftermarket wire clips that bolt on at the valve cover. Well they dont work at all! I think the stock set up was down behind the engine and across the oil pan? Can any one confirm this? Also I have been looking a DocRebuild catalog, If I try and route my plug wires the stock routing what can I order? From them or any one else? TIA
Your wires shouldn't melt if they aren't touching the manifold. Check your timing. Retarded ignition timing will make your exhaust manifolds hotter than they should be.

Some aftermarket spark plug lead sets have a specific plug boot for the plug end... the plug end boot is made of high temp resistant rubber... whereas the dizzy end is NOT high temp resistant (cost factor ???). I don't know your dizzy setup, but if you have similar clips on both ends of your leads, you may have fitted the leads the wrong way around.
Just giving you a heads up in case this is your situation.
If you have ~ 1/4 " clearance between manifold and plug boot you shouldn't have any issues if motor is tuned correctly and leads are located well.
Its not the boots, timing, lean condition, ect. Its the wires they get lazy after a while and drop down and hit the manifold and burn! sometimes the little plastic clips just get distored from the heat! Any idea of what I could use to get back to stock?
From what I see in the pic, and what I see for pics in mags. What I would need is 2 clips for the oil pan, 2 lower clips , and two upper? Where do they bolt? lower @ block? and upper @ intake?

You need:
2- oil pan clips
2- lower brackets/looms that mount to rear of block
2- grommets for lower brackets
2- upper brackets/looms that mount to intake manifols
2- grommets for upper brackets
