Default Speedo cable replacement. Oh do I dread it.....tips?

I have to replace the cable with the one that came with my Keisler 5 speed and boy am I dreading this job. Can you get to it by just reachining up under the left hand dash pad? As I remember it when I had the dash out there was just a spring clip attached to the guage housing that you push in and pull the cable off correct?

Any other tips besides beer and zanax?????

I did the Keisler 5 speed upgrade a couple of years ago. I was also dreading the speedo cable install. It ended up being such a non issue.

I just reached up and pushed in the clip and the old cable slipped right off.
The new cable (with a little wiggle) slipped on with no problem.

With your understanding of the connection, you should have no problem at all.

The hardest part is getting it through the firewall grommet.

As with most things, putting it on is harder than getting it off. There are special facial expressions and words that help.

a technique I used, I tied a long string to the old speedo cable, and As I pulled it out through the firewall, and down to the transmission it snaked the strig through as well.

When I went to attach the new cable, I tied the free end onto the new cable and snaked it back up from the tranny, through all the spaces, helped guid it through the firewall, and back up under the dash.

You can't simply pull this through, you need to prod and pull the cables both in and out, but at least that attached string provided me a "path" which to follow.

This was a procedure I wasn't looking forward to, but in the end it was quite simple and only took about ten minutes each way.

btw: it's a one way process. Dash end goes through the firewall, the tranny end is too large

good luck

Swede
