Got new hardware today to replace the upper and lower seat back stops on a early 70. After installing the new stops I set the seat back and the stops are nowhere near to lining up,that is contacting each other where they are supposed to
Old uppers were horribly bent and weren't contacting the lowers when they were in either.
I'm going to try switching the backs side to side tomorrow but if that doesn't help anyone have any suggestions??
I just finished installing new seat covers and went through the same thing. I had my seats frame stripped bare and ended up using long c-clamps to pull the seatbacks in the right direction until the stops aligned. It took a couple pulls on each seat back but they ended up aligning about 98% correct. I'm not sure if the seat frames are the same as my 74 but you may have to remove the seat bottom upholstery. Not a big deal, all you have to do is remove the seat stops, center strap if your car has one, and unhook the retainers along the bottom of the upholstery. Then you can be a long c-clamp on the bottom frame and pull the side supports in either direction until they line up. Good luck.
Update: Dismantled seats and found the lower cross bar on the seat backs(both) are bent. One has been previously welded(poor job).
1 seat bottom crossbar at the rear has had another poor repair .
Stripping seats tomorrow and new lower bars are ordered.
Seatback crossbars will be straightend and reinforced
