Default Power steering ram problem

Guys.
I can't get the ram apart.
The retaining clip is out of the cylinder boss, there doesn't seem to be anything else in the way, but the piston won't come out out of the cylinder bore. It just clunks solid as a rock and will not come out of the bore.
I've never had one do this before.
What am I missing?
Anyone got any suggestions? I need to put new seals in it.
Thanks,
Skip in Houston

Yep, has to be cut apart. Easier to just buy one done.

Come on guys.
I bought a rebuild kit and the parts manual says it comes apart.
Why would the vendors sell the seal kit to rebuild it if you have to cut things apart.
I'm missing something.

I bought the re-build kit as well. Something is not being said here. Can they be re-built or not? If not why are kits sold by Corvette vendors without weld/non-amateur caveats/warnings? Most of us do not have a torch or expertise beyond basic seal replacement in such a critical steering component.

THEY CAN BE REBUILT, BUT IT REQUIRES A MACHINING OPERATION TO OPEN UP AND WELDING TO CLOSE. I HAVE DONE 4 OR 5 THIS WAY. INTERNAL SEALS AND WIPERS ARE COMMON HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS. POSSIBLY ONE REASON IS THE LIABILITY ISSUE. THAT SYSTEM CAN RUN APPROX 1,000 PSI. IF A SCREW ON HEAD EVER CAME LOOSE, ALL HELL COULD BREAK LOOSE ON THE HIGHWAY.

The kit that you purchased will fix the type of leak that drips on the floor (the piston rod seal.) The piston seal inside the cylinder will only seep from the side of high pressure back to the low pressure side. All leakage is internal. The power steering pump just has to work a little harder to supply more flow.

I have kits for the control valve and the ram but can't isolate the minor leak. This may be a clue: the leak occurs after a drive and when the car is parked. So the PS system is not under pressure at that point.
