Default How Much Should Body Mount Installation Cost???

I have the mounts, bolts and washers but I don't have the time or energy (19 month old daughter)! What would be the labor cost. I was quoted $500 to $600 if nothing has to be welded.

did mine with a buddy in a afternoon and those were my drinking days which ment every 30 minutes you have to stop for 10 forabeerand smoke break lol . I would assume it would only take 1 person a few hours 600 seems like alot to me. I think 250-300 is about right.

Well, I finished mine up today. I used some instructions posted on the web and it was not bad. I was able to clean up the frame before replacing the mounts too. Not sure a shop will do that for you. If your car is not a daily driver then I would encourage you to give it a try. You can break it up over a couple of days.

soak the bolts with PB blaster for a couple days use 2 floor jacks/rip some wooden strips for body to jack contact and hope the cage nuts for the number 4 mounts do not break loose and spin with the bolt. you can do it in a day buy yourself. hire a baby sitter and take your family to dinner and still have money for some new parts. learning can be fun! good luck.

This is the way frame offs start. You may just open up a can of rusted out junk and be down a one way road with no turning back. I would never quote a price on this job because about half the bolts usally twist off for me.

there have been a couple threads recently about #4 mount repair because it is in an area that is very prone to rust. This job is actually the reason I bought my welder because I was getting quotes of $400-500 just to have someone come out to my house and weld in 2 new body mounts on the frame. Assuming everything comes apart ok and your frame is in good shape it shouldn't be too bad. What kinda of shape is the frame in now?

The quote was anticipating some broken bolts and the welding is for the frame mount being rusted through. Then it would need to be repaired or replaced w/ a welder. You guys have given me some ambition to tackle this job myself. I have done alot of research but two question keeps coming to mind Do I have to take off my bumpers on an 82 vette??? and... Can I lift one side at a time (driveside then passenger) I don't think I have the height in my garage for a engine hoist to pick it straight up(7 ft ceiling ) THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT

Pray to the Corvette Gods and offer a sacrifice that is worthy before doing the body mounts. Spray the #4s a lot and hope they don't spin otherwise you will have to cut out the cages and have new ones welded in. I know, gawd how I know.

i have had cage nuts break at #4 mount and used a real pair of vise grips. the vise grips have to be clamped on the cage nut as tight as possible. first turn a breaker bar 1/2" drive 6 point socket as if you were trying to tighten the support bolt. make sure the vise grips don't move. now go ahead and turn in the direction to loosen the bolt go slow. this process has worked for me in many situations. no harm in trying. hope it works for you. peace. PS do one side at a time.

Me, on the other hand had no issues at all getting any of them out. I tried to find the "how to" guide that I used but am trouble now finding it. Something like "eurocorvette.com" - great instructions - lifting one side at a time. If you are serious about DIY, I will search further for it...

I live where they salt the roads in the winter and if a Corvette was driven in the winter the bolts just spin in the cages on the 2 and 3 mounts. What causes the problem is the bolts were tightened till the last thread hit the nut and that leaves about one inch of threads below the nut to rust inside the frame. Add pluged drain holes at the rear in the frame by the wheel and everything stays wet and rusts.

Vette us all, that sounds like a good idea! How high did you lift your car to get the visegrips in place? I'm still stumped about taking my bumpers off on an 82 to get my body off???? THANKS EVERYONE!!!

I have to admit that I had already pulled both front and rear bumpers months ago so I don't know how to answer the question for sure. From the directions it sounds like the front cover has to come off at least. You might browse through the archives to see if someone else knows this.

I changed mine. It wasn't that bad. I had to replace both # 4's bought new brackets and revited them in. Cost $35.00 each. And rebuild front right support. Easy for me I've been welding for 40 years. I would have at least $600. With no trouble it will take at lease 4hrs. at $75. Now through in fabrication time welding time. Plus removing and replacing rugs, kick pannels. It's a steel at $600
