Default 1982 alarm install thread....

As it stands I've got this.......

[IMG][/IMG]

before i try and put all this together, does anybody have any tips?

I'm thinking life will be much easier if I remove the drivers seat and the speedometer. I will take pictures as I go for people who might want to do the same.

Thanks

Okay, I didn't get too far with this before I hit a snag......

There are two wires on the alarm harness that are labeled "instant trigger", one is a + connection the other shows a - sign. I'm thinking that I should connect to the door switch that activates the dome light. However, there are three wires, white, tan and light blue. The wiring diagram in my Haynes manual doesn't help figure out what splices into what. Anybody got any tips?

Thanks

If your instant trigger wires are labeled + & - I would think the +goes to a 12 volt source and the - goes to ground. Dont you have a wiring diagram that came with the aftermarket alarm?

the unit is easy to install if you need tech support I can give you my cell and walk you through it as I do this for a living.

here is how it goes I'll give you a quick run down on install I cant tellwhat type of alarmit is from phot but here is the common to most alarms

1- red 12v+ on alarm to RED @ steering column harness
2- Yellow to 12v+ ignition the PINK wire @ Column harness
3- orange to starter kit relay
4a- Purple positive door trigger
4b- green negitive door trigger
4c - On you car go to your under dash light probe the either wire"should be thin brown or white w/ a test light push in the door pin the test light should go outandwhen u let go the it should light this is a positive trigger connect the purple positive input from the alarm ,If it does the oposite connet the green and cap the other wire.
5 - The thin light blue and green wires located on their own plug are door lock wires you car has 12v+ lock if the alarm doesn't have built in relay PM me I drop you a # and walk you through it.
6 - Fused white wire connet to you parking light wire located back of light switch should also found in the harness above kick or at backof fuse panel.
the rest is simple LED has its own plug , siren to siren wire ect..

for a ground I would run a 10 or 12 awg from the battery so your sure to have a good 12v- that can be used for all aftermarket electric.

PS The unit lookslike it has a built in Remote start due to the extended range antenna if it does
your acc. wire on alarm goes to the orange at the column harness & the starter wire goes to the Purple in colum harness both 12 awg cables

LMK if you need any help
Carlos

Hey Carlos, thanks for the advice. I'm a still a bit stuck....

The starter relay has two red, a yellow and an orange wire:
[IMG][/IMG]

Now how do I splice in with these? I think the wires I'm supposed to splice into are these:

[IMG][/IMG]

But before I go cutting in, I thought I'd make sure.....

I should add it's a K9 Eclipse

I'm slowly making progress, and I'm left with two wires coming from the main alarm harness now:

[IMG][/IMG]

The starter relay has the following:

Red 87a, Red 30, Yellow 85, Orange 86

As you can see the diagram that came with it doesn't really give me much help....

The relay in the instructions is obviously not the same one I've been sent, and so I'm a bit lost here. The orange from the alarm, according to the diagram, should go to Orange 86 on the relay. Now going on what Carlos says, the last yellow wire from the alarm harness goes to the chunky pink wire on the ignition (a few photo's up), and then I just have to tie in the remaining red wires (87a and 30) into the starter wire on the ignition harness. I think I get that now. But what do I do with the remaining yellow (85) from the relay.

I've read a few threads about starter kill switches, and that makes me think I should ground it, but then seeing as it's yellow, and so is the yellow wire that goes from the alarm to the ignition harness I'm also tempted to splice in there..... Anyone care to shed some light on this for me?????

Thanks for your patience and help.

Cut the starter wire in the car in half. Connect the red wires, from the relay, to the ends of the wire you cut. Doesn't matter which red to which end. Connect the yellow from the relay, along with the yellow from the alarm, to the pink ignition wire in the car. Connect the orange wire from the relay to the orange wire from the alarm.
I'm slowly making progress, and I'm left with two wires coming from the main alarm harness now:

The starter relay has the following:

Red 87a, Red 30, Yellow 85, Orange 86

As you can see the diagram that came with it doesn't really give me much help....

Red 87a, Red 30, < to either sideof the purple starter wire in the harnes to the left of your hand in photo . YOU MUST CUT the starter wire in your car in half 87a to 1 side and 30 to the other the relay works as a on off switch for that wire

Remaining Yellow 85 < to 12+ ignition the Pink wire in same harness. You can connect the yellow from the alarm with this wire.

Orange 86 < to the orange starter kill wire from alarm brain

As far as the connsction I use 3M taps DO NOT USE scotch locks. You can get T-taps at your local Home Depot here is a like to what they look like
These grab the wire>
http://www.installationproducts.com/...ategory.531/.f

These connect your alarm wire to car>
http://www.installationproducts.com/...ategory.525/.f

If you can't find themin HD then go old school strip, poke, stick and wrap. Yake your strippers>http://www.installationproducts.com/...2&category=464
cut the sheathing in 2 spots about 3/8" apart to expose the wire once STRIPPED. POKE your test light straight throught the strands as to make a strand seperate.Take the wire you need to connect strip atleast 1" of wire from the end twist it STICK it through the hole in the wire .Then WRAP it around the wire several times and tape it make sure to use good 3Mtape better than the 1700 series buy the $6 or $7 a roll s**t that come in its own plastic case its worth it.

the diagram that came with it is designed form alarm techs just as a reference point as some alarms use different colored wires.

I'm familiar with the K9 I started installing those units about 15 yrs ago make sure to ground the unit to a solid ground I suggest running a 10,12 or 14 guage min..wire to the battery it will only take a few minutes.

Any problems call

PS DONOT hook up both of those parking light wires you only need 1 to the light switch wire & dont connect the horn honk on the alarm 1 of 2 thing will eventually happen the horn will burnout from beeping so much and most of the horn out put on thealarm usally goes bad on those alarms after a few months and inturn you may get other problems . Once something inthe brain goes usally other thingsdo to as they are all controled from 1 sensory chip
