Default power steering high pressure fitting 1982 question

Im doing the Rack Attack and Hydrobost conversion. Take a look at the fitting that came out of the OEM 82 power steering pump high pressure side compared to the fitting supplied to me by VBP:

Is this a proper alternative fitting?

The hydroboost 80-82 recommendation is also not even close.

Seems I should be using this AERFBM1144:

Is this an older pump in my 82? It doesnt match the fitting requirement recommended for 80-82.

Brent.....

The AERFBM1144 is an SAE thread fitting, and your '82 is metric I believe.

You will need a:

16mm x 1.5" to 6AN male to male coupling
AER-FBM2241

and...

90 degree 6AN hose end
AER-FBM1122

The FBM1144 is what I used in my 82 pump...

Here's a schematic I knocked up for the Jeep/Hydroboost plumbing.

Your fitting on the right looks more like an FBM2608 (16mm x 1.5 to -6AN) that I used in my Jeep box.

Have a look at hydratechbraking.com

Wayne, is your pump a stock '80 thru '82 pump? GM switched to metric in '80 if I recall correctly.

All GM power steering pumps had a female 16x1.5mm metric o-ring fitting at the discharge port starting in 1980. All GM power steering pumps before 1980 had a female 5/8-18 45 degree flare fitting.

Your original hose has the male 5/8-18 45 degree flare that mates to the discharge port used in earlier GM pumps.

Now, it is very easy to just unscrew the discharge fitting and replace it with a different fitting to arrive at different flows. You also can unscrew the discharge fitting and replace it with one that has a different port configuration. They are all interchangeable.

However, be aware, that the discharge fitting does control the flow out of the pump. So you could very well install a discharge fitting with the correct porting for your project, but the power steering performance could suffer.

If you don't know where the fitting came from, or at least carefully measure the throat diameter of your new fitting and try to match that fitting to the one that was in your pump, you could run into some serious power steering assist problems.

This is what I have on it right now and it is leaking at the blue threads to pump outlet port. There is no concave flare end on the blue fitting to mate up to the convex flare on the pump outlet fitting. I dont think this guy is going to work.

I have figured it out though. The fitting above is for my brake power booster manifold vacuum advance. I found the correct fitting tube from the power steering unit and it does have the o-ring fitting similar to the supplied VBP part. I will try to use the VBP part.

I have too many parts lying around.......
