What do I have, bought a 63 with 69 side exhaust, they appear to be original, but know nothing about this year, they are metal, and on the inside have the numbers 13467 and another number 2024 T3 00250/4, the other side has the number 13433...I am going to sell them, they are very pitted and need rechroming...what are they worth? the exhaust pipes are not original...look like glass packs. thanks Mike
As fugawi said, pictures would help. If they are so pitted they absolutely need to be re-chromed to use, the covers probably are worth very little since re-chroming is so expensive that it makes the repro covers look reasonable $$.
If the insulators are in good shape they may be worth a few dollars to someone who wants original parts not repro.
Regards,
Alan

As stated they definitly need rechroming, but noticed in Paragons catolog the repos are $2300.00, I would think these would have some value....do the numbers I mentioned mean anything, are they factory numbers making these originals. thanks for the help. Mike
That must have been an interesting look! If they are are complete, original and with the fasteners and such, even pitted, I'd go out on a limb and bet they're worth $1000.00 to $1500.00 for the pair. What's under them is academic, because the original baffled set-up was separate anyway. Wish I had 'em, mine's an original side-pipe car...
And no, the originals are not made by GM any longer.
If the covers need to be re-plated they're not worth very much because the re-plating is so expensive. First you need to find some one capable of repairing the pitted areas and then you need to find a plater because not everyone will do them. I looked into having my originals re-plated and it was going to be around $1500.00 and I had the covers!!!!
The covers that Paragon sells are made on the original dies and the plating is better than original. The chromed covers without the insulators are around $1200. But even they limit their warranty because the covers pit so easily.

Alan
The side exhaust covers are cast and polished aluminum. It's pretty expensive to chromium plate aluminum. Not all replaters can replate aliminum.
Also, as for the pitting, there's another thread somewhere in the C3 forum concerning filling in the pits in aluminum. Someone wants to know how to fill in the pits in a cast alluminum valve cover. I don't know if anyone has posted a response as to a practical way to fill in the pits in aluminum.
