I am getting my frame blasted and would like to paint it to be as near original color and sheen as possible. I heard that John Deere (?!) chassis paint is very close to a match.
I don't know much about paints, but it seem on the car shows most of them do the powder coating on the frames:confused: . Personally, I would match the color of the car. :yesnod:
The A. O. Smith Company painted Corvette frames semi-flat black before shipping them to St. Louis. The paint was not of particularly good quality. Can't tell you about John Deere, but Krylon semi-flat black is a near perfect match. Good luck.
:)
Eastwood also makes a chassis black paint that looks good.
After having my frame sand blasted I coated it with 3 good coats of PPG's
DP-40. It is a etching epoxy primer to be used on bare metal and then after that I top coated it with 3 coats of Eastwoods Chassis black.
Turned out pretty good.
On the inside of the frame I sparayed it with POR-15 by using an undercoating gun and wands.
If you do all the efforts and go sandblasting I would opt for powdercoating.
It may cost little more than paint, but in the long run it will pay off for sure!
