Yet Another Electric Choke Issue
Choke Light won't go out unless I unplug the choke. '81
1. Choke seems good; no round gasket, so it's grounded.
2. Fuse in fuse box is good.
3. Replaced choke relay 2-3 years ago.
Is there another, in-line, fuse?
Is there a definitive test for the choke relay?
What am I missing?
Have you unplugged the alternator?
The relay that turns on the light is deinergised with the engine running.
If the Choke Heater fuse opend it will drop out the relay and turn on the light.
If the alternator has a failure that puts a ground on the Brown wire that will turn on the relay and turn on the light.
With everything normal and the engine running, there is 12v on 1 side of the coil from the fuse AND 12v on the other side from the Brown wire on the alternator, this holds the relay off and the light off.
The light turns on when the relay turns on. If the relay coil fails the light will come on.
Not that complicated, but its a little weird.
I guess I was hoping that the Choke Light would be lit when the choke was restricting air, then go out when the choke was fully open.
It's be useful and you'd know when the secondaries are available.
