This manual has never impressed me that much but now it has gotten me a bit angry........ on page M220 that describes the steering column installation process, twice it refers to I.P. Just what the HELL is that in reference to??? Holy cow this irritates me.....I will probably be made out to be a complete dope when this is answered but I don't care, rather be a dope than continue to the feeling and thoughts I'm having right now....Man!
#1- You didn't tell us which year AIM you're referring to.
#2- You do realize this was designed as an internal manual for those assembling the car and not for use by the general public, right? You have to accept that there may be some terminology, etc., that they would be expected to know and therefore not explained to dopes like us.
#3- Looking at the corresponding section in my AIM, my guess is instrument panel.

Someone here sent me a excellent index that they had put together for a 71 which I would be glad to share with anyone that wants it. Send me a PM with a email and I will send you a copy. It is in Excel format.
Does anyone else have any indexes for other years that they would be willing to share?
I will start another thread to give the idea a little more visibility.

I've been slowly making an expanded index for my '75 AIM. The stock index that comes with it is very..... general. Mine has the main sections and then a list of the parts shown on the page as a subset. Eventually I'll have it on the computer so a search will bring up about every instance of a part shown. It's coming along slowly.
I wouldn't mind a look at your index just to see the structure of it.
I bought an index from one of the vendors for my 78' AIM. It has saved me some time as the AIM is not organized very well. Mid-America Motorworks sells them $10-$12 per year.

I have the same thing with mine, very useful, its broken down by key word, i.e., wiper switch, instead of general terms like, chassis electrical. Mine is also for the 78
I think the AIM is priceless!!!! But it can be very frustrating because some pages are hard to read, there's SO much information, and the car was new, apart, all there, and raised up off the ground to work on when the AIM was being used.

Alan
My main gripe is the lack of an index. You'd think the vendors selling them would see this as an advantage.
Maybe I see a business opportunity for myself
I agree, and have made an index for both my 69 and 79 AIM, as have others. The index was made in progress and as I needed to find things. Honestly, there is much to be desired if one relied solely on the AIM. I also use a Corvette Shop Manual, Chilton manual and a Hayes manual for reference. Sometimes the exploded view in vendor catalogs can also be useful. We have all shared your frustration at times.
