I have a GM Performance 350/330hp crate engine installed in one car (not a Vette), and had an Edelbrock Pro-Flo RPM EFI mounted on it. I haven't any experience with other makes, but this one is outstanding.
I tried calling you, but you were not there. Funny seeing this The Edelbrock Pro Flow is the way to go. They were suppost to release there new kits this month, I will have to check on that. Stay away from the Holley Commander......not user friendly at all! I have heard great stuff about the Mass Flo Efi. I have not used it personally, but no tuning sounds user friendly enough!
Would these kits fit under a stock 1980 hood? I'm thinkning I would like the same thing in the future.

i have a mass flo efi it will fit under hood [my 80 L82 ] if you buy it you have to let chris from mass flo know its for a corvette, he has to mill the manifold down half inch you can't use your stock air cleaner, system is very easy to install and it is plug and play you have to adjust your idle speed and timing and thats it the computer learns as you drive, system was expensive around $3600 for every thing $3000 for f.i. system $600 for fuel system look at my avatar pic
What is the best part of having EFI on a 405 hp 350? Will I really see a difference?
With a carbureted 405 hp small block, you'll be able to smoke the tires. With EFI, you'll not only smoke the tires, but turn them blue in the process and do it faster!
That's an exaggeration of course, but you'll love EFI.
