hi all! can someone advise me on installing my dash wiring harness fuse assembly back onto the firewall? i don't see how in the world a person can reach in there and start those screws. please help!! thanks---john
I pulled the seat out so I could get to the inside block. Can't remember for sure, but it seems like they unscrew from the inside and I used a nut driver with the seat out.
Are you replacing the harness or just the fuse block? I would hate to rewire the block from scratch...
hi corvettedave01!! thanks for your reply! no,i am replacing the dash harness with one i bought on e-bay from corvette macki went over it and replaced a couple of wires and retaped it.i am having a problem getting in there to start my screws to the firewall. any advice will be greatly appreciated!---thanks---john
Hey Jarret.....I'm not gonna be much help to you, but I am planning to do the same (dash wire harness install), and I was wondering....like, not how hard it is, or anything like that....but, are you doing it with the body on the frame, and if so, how are you getting in and around the steering column, and through the fire wall? I apologize if these are kinda dumb questions, but I am an amature mechanic, and I am trying to draw up a battle plan for redoing the dash harness.....with very little success, and mounting concerns. Frankly, it scares the crap out of me, and i worry that once I start, I may never get it all back together and working again.
Take out the seat and then get in turn around upside down and you can get to it. I had my doors open and a fan running on me as well cause it gets hot quick in that confined space.
basicly, you have to twist and push on the fuse block, and then make sure your screws are in the right place. having someone on the outside to look at the firewall to tell you if the screw is going in the right place helps alot too... or you can get out and look every time you try and "stab" it. good look, and dont forget to breath... woosah (then rub your earlobes.. for patience)
hi! thanks for all the replys! to kevink-no,the body is not off the frame, and the steering column is in the car.i am going to take aimhigh's advice and lie on my back to try to start the screws.i will let you know how it works out.---thanks again guys!----john
i made a puller( out of a piece of 1x2 wood) with a 1/4"bolt that fit into the center nut of the fuse box. put it on the engine side of the firewall and used that to pull the fuse box into position. after that, it wasn't too hard to start the screws.

i just used a piece of 1x2 abour 6" long, drilled a hole in the center for the 1/4" bolt, put a screw in each end so that it would "stand off" the fire wall, and put a nut on the 1/4" bolt so that as the nut was turned it would draw the fuse box up to the occupant side of the firewall. just a home made puller. i couldn't push the fuse panel up to the firewall tightly enough to start the screws. it's been a while since i did this, so my description may be in error, but the concept is pretty straight forward.
