I am getting ready to in stall my speed pro piston with 2 valve relief, looking at piston I don't see any mark that shows toward front of engine on piston not familiar with valve relief piston, piston has piston number( h124cl )on one side does that side go towards front of engine maybe dumb question but not sure on this.

Thanks

All valve reliefs go to the inside. No need to mark the pistons.

if the engine is rotated so that the rods hang straight down, maybe nobody will notice if the "whacker" is a little smaller . . .

Be careful if it's a small block. Often there are two different sized reliefs and you have to make sure they match the right valve size. The middle 4 are one way..the outer 4 the other way since valves are in different order.

Reliefs go toward intake valley side ... If sbc piston has only two "eyebrows" and they're different size "eyebrows" the large one is the Intake, the smaller is Exhaust ... 2 small exhausts face away and to outside at front & rear cylinders and 2 more small exhausts face each other at the two inside cylinders ... seems like H124CL has same size reliefs but not sure. For 6" rod 383 right? The pic link in DB's post shows they go up. Maybe my diagram helps too.

-edit- also of concern is wrist pin offset ... maybe H124CL has them I don't recall ... many pistons.

Please post any & all numbers and letters on piston tops ... look at all pistons' stampings to see if they're any differences ... in the past in seems like H122CL (400 2vr piston) sets may have had a different stamping to include a slightly different number or a right/left identifier. Get your caliper out & check for offset ... just as pins are raised/lowered for different strokes ... they're moved quite slightly side-to-side if made w/offset ... typically 0.030" to 0.060" ... check all of yours. They offset primarily to alter thrust face for quieter running ... typically performance pieces Not offset.
