So I've read the timing post and the applicable articles several times and decided to TRY and play with my timing. Where would the hold down bolt on a ProForm HEI distributor be? Is it the bolt that is in the manifold that looks like a PIA to get to? I have very little car knowledge, so go easy on me, you got to start somewhere.
Well I cant trace that wire back, but I think I got it. The plug on the passengers side, closet to passenger is wire number 8 so if i go one over(counter clockwise) on the distributor, that should be #1 right? Yes, this is rocket science for me.

First thing, buy a chiltons repair manual or a factory assembly manual they will have tons of info on these type of things with plenty of diagrams that will help you tremendously!!!!!
find a friend that is a gear head to help you out and teach you some things. thats how i started working on cars back 25 yrs ago and can swap a motor in a day by myself now!! plus it always helps to have an extra hand or a set of eyes while working on cars!!
