Need to remove the tranny as it has a leak in the front casing. Will it pull back enough once I remove the driveshaft? Don't want to start moving the engine. Thanks

Automatic I assume? The cross member will unbolt to aid in removal, so once the drive shaft is out, and the transmission is supported and unbolted from the engine you can slide it back a bit and lower it. Don't forget to unhook the shifter cable, detent, cooler lines, speedo cable, vacuum line, and the wiring.
ooops sorry but it's a 4speed. There was a small ammount of silicone on the front of the tranny. Noticed it when the engine was out. Should have checked it out back then.
Yes, it can be done. I just did it this past winter on my 69. Remove all linkage & related hardware. Remove the backup switch and bracket and any other hardware on the tranny. Slide the tranny back as far as it will go then twist it. Once the pilot bearing clears, move the tranny toward the passenger side & drop it down.
