Default I need information on changing transmissions

My 78 was totaled. It had a 350 turbo auto. The car i'm looking at is a 79 L82 with a manual trans. If i removed my 350 and delivered it with the car what would be a reasonable price to change them out? Will the crossmember and drive shaft fit from either car? I have also heard there are neutral saftey switches that must be changed. What modiifications are necesarry to get the speedo working right? Sorry for all the questions. I'm not a mechanic and need to know what this will cost me, and if the parts will interchange? Any advise or help will be most welcome. Thank You

Manual cars have a welded crossmember, Auto cars have it bolted.
The Auto is of bigger dimension, so you need to remove the X-member.
Also the driveshaft dimensions are different, but I don´t know for sure.
You will need to swap a lot of parts from the totalled car.....
Are you sure that they are all useable and not bent or broken???
Check out this first - probably its a cost issue then.....

Mail me if you need more detailed Info.

The crossmembers on both of these cars are removable so it should not be a problem to unbolt your 78 member and put it in the 79. The brake pedal assembly from the 78 should really be used on the 79 to look right and that will be somewhat time consuming for him to do. The speedo cable should bolt right up. The nuetral safety switch system on the 78 will need to be transferred to the 79 as the 79 uses only a clutch safety switch and this is different, so there will be more time lost here. The driveshaft from the 78 will bolt into the 79. You really don't have a lot of parts to buy, just some labor. I would take a guess at maybe 12-15 hours????
