I was wondering if anyone knew what the number of AMPS on a 1973 original alternator are?
I am looking to either rebuild my original or buy a new one?

I THINK it's a 36/63 output model. Meaning 36 amps at idle and 63 amps at higher RPMs.

Is it important that you replace it or rebuild it as a factory original?

If not, you might look into a more modern and more efficient CS130 or CS144. It's a very easy swap and if you have to buy a new alternator anyway upgrading just makes sense.

I have heard good things about the Powermaster alternators? Never knowingly used one myself...

You can look near the part number and it usually tells the amp output stamped into the case.

My chome Powermaster 100 amp has been great. I have their stater too.
