Default Differential crooked?

1968 427 Convert
Took out the 4:11 to put in a highway gear
removed the crossmember from frame (did not drill compartment access)

All back in
Passenger yoke now thumps the compartment behind the seat
I also noticed new composite spring was a 1/2 inch difference between the two sides (front to back)

As I saw putting back together there was nowhere to adjust the differential to allow for alignment...why would this be shifted slightly?

When mounting crossmember to differential (4 bolts)
Is there enough play to allow this shift?

Thanks

Side yoke hitting the compartment? You better stop and confirm, there should be plenty of clearence there. There should be no difference with the mounting as when you removed it. Something is not aligned.

That's what I mean
It can't go in crooked if the sombreros are on and the bolts are all in and then the front mount tightened up

even before the half shafts were installed

The crossmember doesn't have a front and back...right?
It can be mounted either way...

I believe the hole pattern is offset on the crossmember. I don't think it would bolt to the cover if off. If you have a HD cover it may be hitting the cross member. I've had to grind a radius in them to fit but it was obvious.
even so it would have to be way off to have the 1/2 shaft hit the body?

Okay, not that far off but yoke still thumps against passenger side compartment on the widest part of the yoke

and here is another shot different angle

The drivers side just clears

and here is another angle

Here is the front of the differntial and bracket

Before I remove everything and start over... Does anyone see anything wierd here or have any light to shed?
