Thread Tape
I am putting on braided steel fuel line with AN fittings, there seems to be a lot of conflicting info on if I should use thread tape on the fittings or not, is there any type of consensus here?

i was told that bits of the tape might tear off and clog the carb jets, but the gel sealant would be ok.
that's what i was told. now here's what i did. i used the tape, but carefully kept the tape off of the three or four threads at the end of the fitting.

Dont use tape on flair fittings. They seal by compression of the flair and not the threads. If you use any, it would only be on pipe threads, but then only up on the threads, not below that. You do not want any shivers to get into the lines. I dont like to use any on fuel lines, period.

I just recently removed my stainless braded AN fitting fuel line of 20+ plus years and replaced with solid OEM steel line. Never had a problem once with it, but if I removed the NPT side of the fitting I always used Teflon tape. Always used the correct size flair wrench to tighten. After 20+ years it looked like new, I just wanted to go back to an OEM look.

Teflon tape sucks!
After you install a fitting with it, remove the fitting.
Chances are the tape is not in the threads, but balled up at the end of where your fittings where like a dam. 75% of the time it does not do what it's suppose to.
Go buy a tube of teflon "paste" if you must use teflon. Home Depot/Lowes/Menards
And only on pipe thread.
As PhyscoVette states...Loctite also works.
There is also a paste just for AN fittings you can buy. Summit and Jegs sell it.
