Default Dual pt dist help

I suspect my original stock distributor in my BB is causing my break down at 4,500 or so rpm. I have a Acell dual point I can stick in for now, but it was in a SB. There's a wide choice of advances I can adjust but what's best? I would assume the most mechanical advance I can dial in is best for my BB with 9-1 comp?

It is set at 12*, it has a range of 11-17*.

It's a 4sp car not that anybody seems to know how much mechanical advance would be appropiate for this application?

You want to set your total timing to 36 degrees, so the length of the curve depends on how much initial advance you want to run. Most lumpy street cams will want about 18 degrees initial. A mild stock cam can run as little as 12 initial. So you want to run an advance curve of about 18 to 22 degrees in order to get about the right amount of initial with the 36 total.
