Default steering wheel question....

my steering wheel column has about a quarter to half of an inch of up and down play. it is solid from side to side but is sloppy at the tilt pivot joint. is this an easy fix or a nightmare? i read in richard newtons book that tilt wheels are a pita to deal with. i figured u geniuses could shed some light on this for me. thanks!

It can be done but is no easy job. Jim shea is the steering expert here. Look at his papers for some insight to a T&T column. I have a 79 column apart right now.
