Steering Column replacement
Someplace in the service manual I read that when replacing the steering column, you are instructed not to tighten the column up to the dash/interior/floorboard (just loose attach) until the suspension is on the ground. This pre-supposes that you have or need to jack the front end in the first place but I did not read that that was required anywhere in the installation instructions..... Is it advanteagous to jack it? Thanks.

You want the frame loaded by the full weight of the vehicle when you are trying to align the steering column to the steering gear. So if you have the car on blocks, jackstands, etc they are instructing you to put the car back on the ground as you do the mandatory alignment procedure outlined in the AIM and/or shop manual.
