Looked at a 69 with a BB 427 today it was hard to read the block numbers through the orange paint. however what I could see looked to be the last 4 digits of 8433 I check in my black book and could not find any vette block #'s ending 8433 I checked all chevy BB #'s online from late 60's to 90's. I didnt even know they still made a bb in the 90's lol, In any event I could not find 8433 endings can someone tell me where I can look this up or can you tell me. The guy said it was a 427/435 center read 427/435 but anyone can buy a dash. It did have a tri power on it.
Here is the pitch he said it was a "C" replacement block do to a spun bearing about a 1/2" from the 4 digits I could read 8433 there did look to be a C as so "C 8433 "
block or cylinder case numbers for a 1969/427 were:
3935439 - until late Dec. 68
3955270 - Until mid Jan 1969
3963512 - 2 bolt main thrus Oct 68
3963512 - 4 bolt main - late Dec 1968
all 427's in 1968 and around S/N 20,000 1969 have the casting date on the passenger side of the block near the freeze plug and the engine mount in front of the starter.
The casting number which you are referring to is located on the top drivers side at the flange at the rear of the case for the transmission bell housing attachment.

No the numbers I'm speaking of are on the front right hand side of the block under the head they are stamped # not casted sry should have elaborated. I'm going to pass by tomorrow and with a little 0000 steelwool and try to clean off the paint. I will also jack up the car and check infront of the starter for the casting #'s
