Ok perfect, a green wire, thanks for the pic Tony
It's a strange situation, my water temp gauge works regualr (190° warmed with 195° t-stat) until last week.
Now I replaced the water pump, t-stat (160°), hoses, coolant and the gauge doesn't work properly (it remains at min. or quickly oscillates from min to max)
So I was checking for the water temp sensor but it's disconnected and I don't find the green wire!

so there's no temp sending unit on now? If that's the case, how were you able to get a reading on your gauge? At 190, where would your neddle be pointing at? It's 100 then the hash then 210, then another hash then 250. Where is 190? Tony

The correct sender for a '69 has a straight pin for the gauge wire connection.

Does anyone know the thread size on the temp sensor?

I want to use this sensor on my LS conversion so I can keep the gauges as close to stock as possible.

Thanks for any help guys.

On the stock head, it is 1/2" NPT, however, on newer heads, it could be 3/8" NPT. If it is a 3/8" NPT hole, and you want to find a sender that will work with the stock gauge, then the sender should measure as close to these values as possible:

220 degrees = 70 ohms
200 degrees = 90 ohms
180 degrees = 115 ohms
160 degrees = 140 ohms
120 degrees = 250 ohms
100 degrees = 340 ohms

I guess I could have added some more info on this and maybe we can narrow it down. The stock motor is a base small block for 1970. Reading the resistance from the point where the wire connects to the sensor to the threads should give me the resistance of the sensor. I will post this back later when I find this info. My car is at my buddies house right now, 30 miles away. It is a single wire connector on the unit if this helps.

I replaced my temp sending unit that I got from a auto parts store and the connector did not have a pin that came out straight. And the temp did not read right on the gauge in the car.

I bought a temp sending unit from a vette supplier ( I think it was Ricks vetts ) and the sending unit had a straight pin and the unit gave the correct reading on the gauge in the car. 195 deg thermostat and the guage was showing just a tad under the 200deg.

My guess the sending unit in the pic came from a auto parts store and those dont work right.

My sensor is like the one pictured. I believe this to be a 1/2 X 14 NPT. I need an adapter to go from M12 X 1.5 to 1/2 X14 NPT. So far I am not having a whole heck of a lot of luck. Any help would be appreciated

Can someone confirm that this is a 1/2 X 14 NPT fitting for me.

Thanks

Here's a though, would changing back to the original rod type end give me the right reading? Does the two different end ( rod vs flat ) give different readings?

The stock sender is 1/2 NPT.
