I have a 76 L82 and was going to go with the 195 AFR heads also. I e- mailed AFR for their recomendation and they said maybe the 180 would be better also. I not sure why? I haven't called them back yet.
Depending on your cam, you probably are probably going to shift before you are able to take advantage of the extra volume of the 195 heads. The 180s should give you good low end torque and throttle response. You can build an engine that will work nicely with the 195s, but it's important to match the cam to those heads, taking into account your rear end ratio, transmission, weight of the car, etc.
If you plan on upgrading cubic inches down the road it would be better in my opinion to loose a little tq now and use the 195's and then have them later for a 383 or 396. Just something to think about. Otherwise, 180's seem to be the choice size for a 350.
