Today my new '72 failed inspection because the wipers will not work.
This is my first C3 and I wanted a driver that I could restore areas when I wanted to.
When I move the wiper switch I get nothing, if I depress wiper fluid the door pops up and that is it.
I have done a search and have found the Wilcox wiring and test page.
My question to the forum is where to start and any quick tests I can perform. I have 20 days to get this fixed and pass.
I'm ok with a one time fix that makes them move to pass inspection. Then I can get it done correctly on my own time. I have no plans of using the wipers after inspection.
The test that solved mine was grounding the over ride switch under the dash. I didn't take any chances and removed my wiper door or just over ride it with the pull ****. Just make you up a wire with a couple of alligator clips on it.
The first thing I would do is see if you have power going to the wiper motor. Check for a ground wire on the case (bubba likes to remove it) There is a safety switch that gets pushed in when the wiper door opens if that is not made you will have no power to the wipers. Check the fuse for the wipers. My money is on a bad ground, but of course its just a guess.
On the help page, there are instructions on how to test the motor. You should be able to do this pretty quick.
If the motor is good, then go to the wires and test them. Test the wires at the wiper motor switch for current.
Verify the wires at the switch and on the three wire connector outer do not have current, then verify them as good grounds.
Make sure the wiper door limit switch is passing voltate. (red wire with white stripe).
Make sure the dash bezel center has a ground wire on the passenger side, and make sure the bezel is not broken at the thin area. If the dash bezel center is broke, run a ground from the back of the wiper switch to the ground terminal on the back of the bezel.
Man, that sucks. I didn't even have to go through inspections here in CT. Drove it to the DMV after MANY hours of getting everything to work in order to pass the inspection, and all they did was check the vin number. I coulda rolled in there with a rust heap on wheels, and been fine.
If you depress the wiper switch to wash and the door comes up but not when you move the switch on. As I had a problem close to this try to turn the plug on the wiper switch around it sounds like its installed backwards.
