Default Clutch "chatter" in reverse only?

Hey guys,

My LS-5 has some chatter; clutch related? when backing up. Can this be related to an issue other than just the clutch? I have told my Dad back in the US to replace the clutch; but he's thinking there is another issue?

I am back in the US for a few weeks in July and need to drive the old car. Having horsepower withdraw living in the UK

I would check both motor mounts before getting too excited. Tranny mount too.

When a clutch is starting to go it will first be noticed in reverse.

How old and how many miles on the clutch and pressure plate? Does she slip at speed when you punch it?

Can you elaborate on "chatter"? I know I have noticed my car wanting to stall out, and takes some work not to stall, when reversing. Has been that way for the past two seasons and I don't know where to start looking either. I'm worried it's the clutch, but mounts might be my first check.
If related, I have also noticed that the car tends to be difficult (wants to stall) during 1st gear starts after the car has had quite some time to heat up, such as after a good highway drive. Do you have the same symptoms?

If chatter is an audible noise like a bird chirping while in reverse I ahve seen this caused by a throw out bearing going away. In reverse we tend to ride the clutch a bit and the bearing is partially engage for a longer period of time. They can go a long way before they squeal going forward. As others noted if it is not slipping in fourth going up a hill or on power then it is probably not clutch related. I do not have any ownership in Spec clutches but I used one last time and it is tremendous after killing two LuK clutches in 200 miles.

The only time I get any chatter is when backing up. It could be a throw out bearing. I thought about that. It looks like I'll be taking it apart shortly.

Thanks

Not an expert but my centerforce DF has chattered in reverse since I put it in, and it definately doesnt slip.. I think in my case with the t5, that reverse is just a lower gear ratio, and im usually slipping it alot because im not going very fast in reverse... I dont think it actually has anything todo with reverse per say ;0

I had the flywheel resurfaced and it was all clean on assembly so I dont know, but I dont think its neccassarily a sign something is bad if you ask me
