Default A-arm dust covers

I installed my new dust covers on the front inner fenders. The center section hangs below the upper a-arm. I can't figure out if they fold in towards the engine, or out over the a-arm, or get cut off. The old ones were half gone, so I have no reference. Any help?

They fold underneath the control arm out towards the outside of the car

This may not be correct, but here is a before and after of mine. The tabs of the dust cover fold under the A-Arm on the motor side.

Hope it helps

Nice photo. That's right. Big improvement from the old half rotted ones that I found o my car 5 years ago.

I punched a hole in the rubber dust cover so the front shock threaded part would stick through. I then installed a stainless steel nut with the same thread pattern as the shock along with a washer. This held it all in place without any problems.

Hey Billsfan, I found just last week, after putting ac belt back . My fan was blowing the right side one upwards into compressor clutch. I heard it, and had to fold it under & out towards the ball joint. If you have ac might check this out.

Sorry, but this is not right.

The area that is squared off beyond the "notches" is supposed to be tucked into the gap (threaded through the gap facing toward the outside of the car) between the A-arm and body.

I'd appreciate a picture of the correct way it install it.

Thanks

This is one of those on going debates, to tuck or not to tuck. I like mine untucked.

I can see this leading to one of those name calling brouhahas on whether to tuck or not. I tucked mine, but because I had tall MT valve covers, I had to run an extra long AC belt, and lean the AC compressor a bit more outboard. The angle of the belt caught the passenger side A arm cover and ate it or at least a big chunk of it. .

Thanks

I don't have a good clear pic and the car is currently "in the bubble" so it's not easy to go snap one. But these two do show how they tuck in.

(At the right front at the braided line tie wrap.)

(At the alternator.)

Note how nicely they tuck in. Just look how much cleaner that leaves the engine bay. You don't think GM made them just that shape and provided the notches for nothing do you?

Thanks for the shots

I'll give it a try and see if it cleans up the engine bay

I tried the "Tuck" tonight and you're right. It looks way better!

Thanks for the tip

Default Ouch!

Mine weren't "tucked" at some time in the past, and the alternator took a nip out of it. On a windy day?

For me, in my efforts to appreciate what original & stock is all about, it seems like a good idea to keep them tucked in.

That's the way to do it.
