How to set engine / transmission angle? (LS1 more specifically)
I am to the point of bolting up my engine and tranny (LS1 / T56) and am curious as to how to measure the engine / transmission angle. I need to mount the transmission to that center crossmember, and am going to try and do so with some sort of fabricated mount, but I want to make sure everything is going to be aligned properly. Any ideas guys?
This is pretty un-scientific but there aren't many LS1/T56 conversions using the stock frame, at least not that I could find. The driveline angle is more severe side-to-side due to the shorter driveshaft, so I tried to get the front u-joint to be square in the vertical axis. I made my mount adjustable so that I can change the angle if the trans hits the tunnel once the body is back on. After I can test-drive the car I'll probably have the mount welded into place. Here are some pics of my solution. Don't laugh at my fabricating skills or I'll delete the pics.

Reason: typo
I think I remember reading somewhere that the tranny needs to have a rubber mount for 'movement' I am running solid motor mounts, do I need to use the stock rubber tranny mount and make that work? And the adjustable idea is great. That way I can make sure it is perfect. What driveshaft are you using?
Don't know the answer to the mount question. I'm using standard rubber engine mounts and a poly trans mount. The driveshaft I'm using came from a car that had a TH400 trans in it. I'll see if I can find the measurements and post them.
