I know there are chips out there but I ran across these on corvettecentral.com, first time ive ever seen em. Anybody know what if any actual benefits these can give?
I installed an Accel high performance chip years ago and it's been sitting on the shelf since. It required a 60 degree stat and the removal of the cat. In my opinion, the car runs better with the stock chip, duals and the emissions stuff removed and capped.
If your talking about an 82 crossfire chip. I have the Hypertec and it works great!!!
What kinds of gains did you see out of it? What mods do you have? I have a 82 with header, tru duels and no emmisions. just wondering if it is going to make a diff.

The chip does 2 things: It advances the timing slightly and it lowers the "fan-on" temperature. That's it. The lower thermostat recommended by the chip manufacturer is intended to offset the engine's tendency to detonate with the more aggressive timing curve, since the knock sensor will retard timing (and negate the chip's effect) when detonation is sensed. You can get almost the same effect by simply advancing your timing a few degrees (since the ECM does not know the absolute timing setting - it only advances and retards from whatever initial point it's set).

That's actually what I did at first, I added 2 degrees to initial timing. I changed it back to factory when I added the chip and couldn't tell a difference other than I was a couple hundred bucks poorer.
