Default New Best ET...

.....happened this past Saturday at Quaker City Dragstrip. This was the weekend of the Steel Valley SuperNationals and the strip was open for "Test and Tune" all weekend. Needless to say, this fun weekend logged thousands of non-stop drag runs.

It was hot and humid, but the new 427 combo posted a 11.07 best time. The first run was 11.11 but I ran up against the rev limiter at around 6800 rpm....I tried shifting at 6500 but the engine revved too quickly upward from there and sputtered.

( Question- how accurate is the factory tach?....the needle bounced around near 6500, so I think I was possibly higher than indicated.)

The next run I short shifted at 6000 1st-to-2nd, and 5500 for 2nd to 3rd gear (auto trans). Off the line, I footbraked to 2000 rpm and let the converter flash.....instant hook-up!

It was apparent that it would be much later before it would cool off and with hundreds of others waiting, too, I called it a day and will make
my assault on the "10's" at another time. In the meantime, I'll adjust the rev limiter and maybe buy a more accurate tach.

Time slip info...1st run

2nd run....better ET, though lower trap speed

Congrats!

Those 60' times have to come down. With your kind of power, you should be in the high 1.40's - mid 1.50's...

Just noticed the 5.005 60' time of your opponent.. Did he race with his bicycle??

Nice runs.
The factory tach cable will bounce all over the place and is not very accurate. I replaced mine with an electronic factory looking tach and it is much smoother and reliable. I also use a shift light so I don't even look at the tach anymore. Just shift when the lights comes on.

NICE......thats a true 10 sec street driven corvette right there.....I love it....Cooler day and more practice learning the shift points and I see 10.80s@125.....

You could probably get it to 60' a little better but......I doubt you ever se 1.40s with stock suspension, full weight etc...... I could see some 1.50s-1.55s maybe but.....

So 630 crank HP is getting 125mph through the traps through TH400...... That gives me an idea of where I need to be.

I had a 1.59 60' time with my old 383,the Tremec 5-speed and stock suspension. My old 383 had a lot less power than his 427.. When upgrading shocks and springs to drag springs and with more power (still less than he has), I had a 1.399 60' time.. My current 60' times are slower as I only have a 2-speed Glide with a 1.80 first gear.. However, with a big first gear, there's no reason to 60' in the 1.60's+ range with that kind of power..

Now that's very respectable. Good job,

You may be able to pick up that last 10th in that 60 foot time. Study the lights and race everyone.

Very impressive runs. I am also curious about what type of tires you were using.

I didn't even look in the other lane....(you have to burn-out and stage rather quickly at Quaker, no time to look around). But, a friend did take a quick digital camera video of the last run....against a Mustang.

Short footage, so don't blink....

I love Quaker City Dragway..... I was lucky-enough to win the first time I towed through the gates there (1992 Memorial Day Classic), and never, ever won another round of Eliminations at that joint.....

Glad to see the track made it past the 50-year mark!

Thanks for sharing, and congrats on your new best-ET!

Cool! That's just a nice cool day away from the 10's! That 427 is making some great power. It's picking up a good 26+MPH on the back half. Looks like a lot of fun...and even more fun because it doesn't have the race car look.....sleeper surprise!!

Congratulations again!

That should be a mid 10 second setup in cool weather.. Probably even low 10's with a higher stall speed on the converter...

Congrats! Great looking car, and I like that fact that it does appear to be something of a sleeper.

Yeah it sounded like it could have used a tad more flash in the converter.....at least from the video..HOLY **** it sounded good when it came on though.....Sounded like he sprayed it a couple car lengths out of the hole when it came on.. All on a stock rear end and driveshaft? That is a true sleeper right there..... Thats EXACTLY what I want my car to be... Although I am curious how easy it is to live with on a weekend driver basis(aka. 500 mile weekends etc)...

What a great car....

I had about the same RWHP (except that mine was SAE corrected and not STD) and my trap speed with the same power was over 136 mph..
