Default Electric fans

I'm trying to figure out a way to get better airflow through my condenser and radiator. I'd like to remove the mechanical fan and go with electric. Will two 10" fans be sufficient??

both mechanical and electric fans are sufficient if everything is in proper working order. shrouds, seals, fan positions etc etc . electric fans like everything come in all ranges of quality and price. to draw a good flow of air i would recommend a fan set up that can draw at least 2500 CFM.

I was following your previous AC thread and based upon wanting lots of airflow thru your condensor, I'd vote for Dual Spals. A bit pricey, but they move a ton of air and can be controlled separately if needed too.

Good Luck!

knowing how bad the heat is here (the last two weeks have been murder), my suggestion is to go with the biggest fans you can put in there. i think mine are the 12" flex-a-lites and even with the griffin radiator, i still run 220+ if i'm driving during the day.
of course, my car pretty much gets parked from the end of may until september.

if your temp really does sit on 220+ then your motor is being cooked.

You sure have something wrong in your engine cooling setup. My car is a BB with a stock factory A/C, and I never pass the 220F mark, if I drive it in a medium stop and go traffic it will be 200-210F, and 185-195 when cruising at highway speed. I am talking about driving in a 100-110F ambient temps!. I am using a dual 11"spals and a dewitt's aluminum radiator.

I drive mine HARD on the hottest of days (about 95), with all stock cooling systems, and have never had a problem, cept once, when the thermostat kicked the bucket on me.

Course, the motor is mostly stock, too, and only makes about 160hp to the wheels......COULD have something to do with it...

Which is why I am looking to replace the fan in conjunction with the new heads and cam. I am NOT going to go with an electric set up, though. What is a good fan to go with in that instance? I have a few brands I'm looking at, but I would just like other people's opinions...

Durango boy seems.to be a good source for info on electric fans. Like him I am looking for a ford focus dual fan set up. Very similar to the dual spal set up but for about 50 instead of 250 or so. Both work fine. I am searching the salvage yards for one as we speak.

You need Spals. Hands down nothing cools like them. I tried all kinds of setups before buying spals. All was for naught, and a waste of time & money. Then I stepped up to the plate and bought the spals.

Now the stroker runs at 185*F most times and then if the A/C is on it will warm up to 195-200 or so. Lovin' It!

I had the alternator rebuilt and upgraded to 95A. It runs the Spals fine with no battery discharge at idle.

I got s pair of 12" fans off ebay and fabbed some brackets to mount them on my Dewits custom Rad. Works great, there are many ways to control the fane, just a matter of how much you want to spend.

well tonight i picked up a dual setup that from what i understand were used on the ramchargers. i beleive they're spals and pull something like 2300-2400 cfm. so i can't imagine i'd need much more than that and if that doesn't get enough airflow through the condenser i need to cool the a/c down some, i'm not sure what will. we'll see!!!

jones, hope those work for you. especially with the A/C on. very few places (like doha, maybe) can compete with vegas for the ambient temps and humidity we have.
it's also very important to make sure that your air dam underneath is in good shape. the fans just won't do as much for you at speed without the dam in place.

Unless they are labeled as SPAL fans, don't let the rated airflow mislead you. The setups I tried before SPAL setups were actually rated HIGHER than my current spal setup.

I called SPAL to ask about that, and was told that different companies rate their CFM differentlyl. Don't remember how it was different but the bottom line is that you need to cancel your order and get a dual SPAL setup if you want to do it right the first time.

well, i'm not too sure exactly what they're for. i was more interested in the dimensions of the shroud they were attached to so that it would fit. i actually found the cfm info online. there's not much info that came with them. the brand is TYC and Siemens is also on the label. I'm gonna give em a shot and see what they can do.

Its summer here as well and that means 100 + almost every day.
Make sure you have your thermostat and fluids good and of course your rad seals. I 'm sure you've checked all that already but a little here and there can make a big dif.

I'm stock and run 190 in traffic with 100+ outside.
Can't wait for our two weeks of fall and six months of winter to get here.

i agree spals are the way to go. summers here are as hot as anywhere and i cant crack 190 with the fan on. its a spal 3000cfm.also i find that when travelling at speed a fan on will actually cause loss of airflow.

Spals are nice if you have the money$$$$. I went with Flex-o-lite dual fans and I run 190-200 w/ A/C on 95 degree days. Best $235.00 I ever spent. With the temps. at your location I would run a 100 AMP alternator or higher so you can keep those fans spinning at full tilt in traffic!!! PS http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...2039314&page=2 Checkout my Flex-o-lite install (towards the bottom of thread) I didn't have to drill 1 hole and it almost looks stock IMO

Default C3 fans

I just installed a Be Cool set-up with dual 11" spal fans. They do a great job cooling my 425 HP 383 stroker in the So Cal desert. They kick on at 195 and drop the temp quickly to 180 before turning off.
