Default Bought a C3 over the Internet?

Has anyone bought a C3 from US Corvettes in Illinois. I've looked at their website and found some very appealing C3s. Any comments would helpful. I'm too far to drive home in a C3. So, I'd have to have it shipped.

I personally would not buy a car without a first hand look at it.

from someone who used to work at a very shady internet dealer(didn't know at first, gone in 2 months)...RUN RUN RUN. People are very easy to fool online, these people are pro's at making things look fine and dandy. you'll likely regret it. If you're really gonna drop money on the car, then call the plane ticket buyers remorse insurance and fly out to see it. or tell them if they want the sale, to cover your flight.

I've seen their advertisements in HEMMINGS. The picture of each car seems to show too nice a car for the price. This is just my observation, so it means less than nothing.

Default buy and NOT see!!

Hi
All i can say is NO NO NO NO. Fly out and se the car.
I am in Minneapolis MN found my car on the internet DID NOT FLY OUT but had the car ship to my adress.
I had a lot of E-mails white the seller "3GCorvettes Gardner, Kansas" i got a lot of pic and me comming from Denmark, when people in Denmark is wrigthen:

Preben,
All of the fluids in the car are new. Everything was just tuned up and dialed in. We rebuilt the carburater less than 15 miles ago and tuned everything else up when it underwent it's final adjustment. I am not sure of the age of the tires, but I will tell you that they have a ton of life left on them. The car has always been stored inside, so there is no sign of any weather damage, etc. They are Hoosier brand tires. If you don't know about them, they are a high end specialty tire that is usually only available through high-performance outlets such as Summit Racing. They retail for over $150 per tire and are a high quality tire. The car has been completely gone through and I can assure you that there are no issues with the condition of this car. We check them out thouroughly before we list them for sale. They are gently road tested to detect any bugs that may need to be worked out. If there is any bugs, they are immediately taken care of. This car in particular has had the carburater rebuilt three times in the past four months. This happened, not because it needed it, but because I wasn't happy with the way the choke operated. I am very meticulous about my work. In fact, the final time that I addressed the choke on the carb., I also drained the fuel tank completely, replaced the fuel sending unit and it's components, replaced all of the fuel filters, and changed the air filter element again. I don't take any chances. If I'm not completely satisfied with a Corvette that we build, we don't offer it for sale to anybody until I am. Again, I can assure you that you would be getting essentially a brand new 1974 Corvette if you bought this car. There is not one stone left unturned on these cars when we rebuild them. If something can't be restored to new, it is replaced with a new part. I am sending you some additional pictures of the engine compartment and a couple of the underneath side of the car. I didn't know exactly what you wanted to see, so I took a picture of each side of the frame as it runs down the car and a picture of the front end of the car, so you can tell that it hasn't been raked over parking blocks and such. There isn't any pictures of the rear end of the car because you can't see the new rear end components with the spare tire carrier in place, but as I said it has a new rear leaf spring, u-bolts, and shocks. I hope that you can tell that there is no rust on the frame and that it is just a bit dirty. It has some paint over spray on it from when it was painted, but that can be dealt with very easily. If there is anything else that I can help you with, please just let me know!
Chris Lawrence
3GCorvettes Gardner, Kansas

I did get my car BUT in a condition almost oppersit of the above, the things i had to replace was:
back bumper
complet set belts
complet handbreak
complet door locks
all u-joints
4 calibers
4 rotors
master cylinder
complet fuel system includ. carb and manifold
just to list some and i still have to get a lot of the frame-sterring-shock rubber change.
so all the pic i got, they look nice but they DO NOT SHOW the bad things.

FLY OUT--LOOK LOOK - DRIVE and try everything then let your expert look for the expensiv stuff, after that you can make a dicision. I DID NOT do that and i am paying BIG time for that now.

Trust is good
Control is better
That my father told me, NOW i belive him.

just my 2 billon cent

preben

PS.
my wife say that i dont swear i my sleep anymore, but this was also in 08/2007 so time will heal wounds,....ore will it i still want to kick his a.. at least the car is road safe now and can drive:o
so thanks to this forum for the help ( i will need a lot more)

PPS.
Dont send the spelling police i am Danish

I've read numerous very bad things about USCORVETTES. DO NOT even think of buying from this guy. When I was looking for mine I thought the same thing ("man these cars look awesome!"). I did some more research and found bad stuff about that company. Also, regardless of where or who you buy from, go see the car first hand or AT LEAST have someone very knowledgable about corvettes check it out. A member on here helped me look over mine and I was very glad he did. No matter how good the pictures look, there's always stuff you'll find when you see it in person. The biggest thing is the condition of the frame/birdcage. You just can't really check those out correctly w/o some knowledge and in person...pictures don't work!

DO NOT BUY A CORVETTE FROM US CORVETTES !!!!

Google "Michael Montrief" to learn more the easy way. I learned the HARD way when he was selling by the name Unlimited Vettes and Corvettes Unlimited out of Huntington Beach, CA. He outright LIED about my '80, overcharged me by $500, and the only response I got was threats. His ad said the car was "excellent in every way" and "they don't come better than this." The car didn't even run when it arrived. Bubba had been experimenting for years on this car, and all his experiments failed. Michael "Monthief" was banned from eBay for very good reasons. He even ripped off the District Attorney of Montgomery County, PA.

His game is to use photos that are not of the car he is selling, then claim ignorance. This has been discussed several times on this forum.

I suppose he keeps ahead of the game by changing the name. He sold a lemon to a DA in the Philly area I recall and got sued. If anything it exposed who he was.

He had my lunch, I was totally sucked in at finding the car I had been searcing for, that certainly isn't what I got. Four years later I am hoping to be driving it soon after a "COMPLETE" restoration. Don't be a dummy like I was. Crawl all over it and drive it before you consider buying,

Default Internet deals....

I also had seen these US Corvettes ads...
thanks guys for warning us !
Buying unseen is definitely not easy..... I do hope that if I find one, I can have it inspected by a CFmember upfront !
My first experience with a "mint" car in Michigan, has already learnt me some good lessons...I was lucky to have it inspected in a local Vetteshop before closing the deal !

i just bought one from buyavette.net.

i hope it works out like it should be.

i spent about 4 hours on the phone with them going over the car talking about all the pluses and minuses. he told me more about the problems with the car than the good stuff. plus in the paperwork that they sent me there is a 30 day 100% money back guarantee.

With the number of Vettes out there for sale, I can't imagine not being able to find one in your area, or close to it. It is hard enough dealing with people face to face, let alone over the internet. My opinion. Cheers...

Default Thanks

Thank, guys, for all the advice and wisdom. I called that Vette dealer a few days before I posted this and no one answered. A few minutes later, he called me back. I asked if I could fly up, buy a car and drive it home. He advised against that, adding, "That car is nearly 30 years old." I'll just keep looking at C3s within driving distance. I have a C4, but I like C3s much more.

I'm sorry to hear about the bad experiences of those on here. But they can help others avoid the same mistakes.

In my case, I did not want to buy a Corvette in my area - Minnesota. I wanted one from a dry climate. I didn't care what the sun and heat did to the paint and interior because I would restore all that myself. I just didn't want a rusted out frame. I literally found 2 scorpions under my car. There was barely a spot of rust anywhere, just lots of dust.

True, buying a car unseen is risky, but I talked to the seller numerous times to get as much information as possible. If you ask enough of the right questions and IF the seller answers honestly, then the risk is lower. Yes, there is often a Forum member who can look the car over, but I certainly didn't know the Corvette Forum existed in 2001. Did it exist then?
