hi, i was wondering if any one knows how to adjust a power steering slave cyilinder, it seems to what to pull to the left, if the wheels are off the ground and the car is running, like when its on a lift, thanks. 69 bb all stock
I don't have my manuals here but that information is in my 1972 GM Service Manual, my Chilton's manual for 1963-82 Corvettes and in the 72 Assembly Instruction Manual. do you have any service manuals from anyone for your car? I would guess it is in your manuals too.
I know it is a very simple five minute procedure requiring very small adjustments but I won't even try to do this from memory.
It's definitely in most manuals. Pick one up if you plan on working on your Vette as a good one, such as the GM service manual, cover most jobs. They are quite cheap on Ebay.
It is on page 9-34 & 9-35 of service manual. I would post it but it is a fairly lengthly description of the valve balencing with two pictures. Also I have not done it myself so I am not about to try to shorten it up and give someone the wrong drections. I can tell you from personal experience--I could not own a corvette without the 1) service manual and 2) the assembly manual. Mine are held together with duct tape because they have been used so much--just my two cents.
Front wheels off the ground take the cap off the valve. Start the motor if wheels go to one side turn the nut a little at a time till they stay straight. If the wheels go the other way turn the nut back to center the wheels. This is all I recall you do but their could be something I forgot.

Did this proceedure 2 days ago !
On a hoist, I started the vette and woooo the wheels turned to one side on their own
Take the cap off, used a small rachet and turned nut/screw to one side...
Went for a test drive and WOW ! What a fast cheap fix !
The fine tunning can be done without having to put vette back on hoist ! Just slide under and you will be able to reach the ajustment nut screw.
My vette now drives hands free ! What a good feeling !
You can get the best adjustment if you unhook the rod end of the cylinder, then remove the small metal cap on the control valve. With the eng running, turn the adjustment till the cylinder just begins to move in the opposite direction, then count the number of turns of the valve that it takes to make the cylinder just begin to move in the other direction. Then turn the control valve adjustment back half that distance and lock the nut down. That will be centered.
thanks guys, i will give your advice a try, one question on the cap, where is it located, and is it on the left or right side. thanks for all the help, greg
