couple of questions for ya'all, the temperature switch for the electric fan on the passenger side head, how can I check to see if it works? I can bypass it with a screwdriver but unless I remove the clutch fan and heat up the motor I am cluless. wanting to recharge the a/c since I got everything else working. heater core started leaking so I just looped the heater hose between the pump and intake manifold. someone told me not to plug them? this falls project will be the heater core and everythig else under the dash. carb question? have a holley street advenger 670? cfm seems like when it gets warm it idles like crap. replaced the power valve and so far its ok. smaller jets and 1 3/4 turns out on the needles seems to make it run better. any thoughts? To charge the A/C, jumper the fan (green wire?) to ground. I'd think that (I don't have a wiring diagram) it should enable the electric fan when the A/C is switched on.
As far as the heater core, I can't see anything wrong with plugging the intake and water pump. A heater is an accessory. Why would GM (or anybody) design something that had to be there after the fact. Heaters were not installed from the factory until the late 40's. I admit that they are there for creature comfort, but looping the hoses together just adds the amount of coolant needed to fill the hose. a quart at most.
Plug a vacuum gauge into the carb and see what it is at idle. Get a power valve that's 2 numbers less than your idle vacuum and you'll be right on..
