I bought a '73 Camaro with a BB 454 to use in my 'Vette in the future. So after I pulled the eng. and a Very nice stereo, I put the car up for sale. The car had a wiped cam, but some very nice professionally ported heads.
I have had some lookers but no takers.
I purchased the car for $4500.00, and am trying to sell it for the same, due to the fact that the car is in quite good shape. It is a complete car missing only the radio, 1 piece of windshield trim and arm rests. Naturally it has no eng. either. A perfect project car as it sets!!!
I need to sell this car due to the fact that where it is at this time is on my brother in laws property, and he wants it moved.
I am now thinking that I may have to put another eng. in this car to sell it, but it is set up with everything for a BB mainly a full 3" exhaust.
I have NO CLUE as to what eng I should look for as an adequate replacement.
Or maybe I should remove the headers and use them when I put it in my 'Vette. I have sidepipes and I think I can get them to work...maybe not...
If I decide to put a SB in it I could use the eng. that is currently in my 'Vette. However this eng was built at a cost of approx. $3000.00 and I don't know if I can recoup all my costs.
A bit more background on the Camaro...This car appears to have been built as a drag car. It has a 12 bolt rear end, th400 trans with a B&M shift kit with a B&M shifter. And a stall converter, however I have no way of knowing what the stall is.
The battery was moved to the trunk, and it has wide Centerline wheels in the back with very narrow Centerline wheels up front.
If anyone has a solution so that I can sell this car it would be greatly appreciated.
By the way...another project , for me, is out of the question due to the fact that my marriage is on shakey ground.
I really need to sell this car and I think getting it running would be my best bet at this time, I may be wrong...I just don't know.
Any and all suggestions are welcome!
Mark
My opinion is that if you put another $3,500 into an engine you wouldn't get that back out of the sale price. People don't want a former drag car with a mild 350. Your buyer will either be someone who wants to put it back to a drag car in which they'd do their own engine or some kid who is going to get himself in deep but is willing to go for it anyway. Decide how quickly you need to sell it and either hold out for your price or lower it. $4,500 seems high for a '73 Camaro roller and who on earth would pay $8k for a rough 73 dragged-out Camaro. That said, my advice would be to lower the price. Where I live you could get a very nice '73 for 3,000 - $5k. If a '70 then obviously different story.
Test it on ebay with a reserve. If it don't sell there, lower the price of it...
yup, I agree, lots of ebay car listings are just to get the car out there in the market and to test what price it would bring... besides, you might get someone that will not buy it on ebay, but will buy it after negotiating with you and then comming to see it.. That's what I did, I would not commit to buying it sight unseen so I negotiated with the seller ( after it failed to meet reserve ) before going to see it with a trailer in tow... it was everything he said it was and what I hoped it would be..
no offense but you say you bought the car for $4,500 than you pulled out the motor and the radio and are now trying the selling the car without motor and radio for the same amount of money and you wonder why it's not selling??
I have a pretty nice 454 that was built for towing you can buy for $1600.The motor has about 20,000 miles on it since it was built 10 plus years ago.Engine was balanced, crank was polished(not turned),forged trw pistons and a comp. cam.You can hear it run and even drive it because it has an old rusty Suburban wrapped around it.
Sly, I stopped and looked at that car last Saturday night as we were driving past, I didn't know it belonged to you! I would continue to sell it as is, no offense but it IS a project/parts car and based on the overall condition, I honestly don't think you would gain anything from installing an engine. I speak from experience with 2nd gen "F" bodies as I've stripped, cut, and restored 4 of the early models and owned 3. Obviously since I stopped to look at it, I would have bought it had the price and condition been right. The '70-'73 cars are desireable but still plentiful. Many parts are still not reproduced yet and parts availability is nothing like 1st gen or our Vette's, so to command top dollar the car needs to be complete with many good usable parts. You have a variety of different year parts which only a Camaro guy might notice. If you had a first gen in your cars condition, it would be a somewhat different story. Good luck with your decision.

I thought the price I paid was a very fair one and that the car would still sell as a good project at that price.
I was wrong, simple!
Do you have any pics of the car? Maybe that would help some of us to give more than vague opinions. Obviously you've gotten at least one solid reference from someone who knows these cars, and has seen this one, but if you want other opinions, pictures would help.
