i welded a wrench to the firewall of my old 69 mustang tightening the + battery cable after tightening the ground a long time ago.

lesson learned

Default Am I the only one....

I use the marine switch that use a large plastic key to connect and then the key can be removed when disconnected. Mounted it inside, under the dash out of sight. Maybe it is safer if it can be disconnected from the drivers seat???

before you toss it sand off the contact plates it will probably work fine.

You probably have one of the cheap knockoff green **** disconnects.
They are inferior and simply don't work right.

I have at least 5 of the good ones and they have worked flawlessly for years. They have a "Made in USA" sticker in the recess of the **** and are made by a company near Chicago. I think a guy on ebay has the real ones for a decent price. You can get them for both side terminal and top post batteries.
