The protecto plate has the following information imprinted in the plate:

type of engine, transmission, rear axle, exterior color, the month the vehicle was produced, and other basic vehicle information. Note: This plate was included with the warranty book and was not attached to the car.

There are a number of places to verify numbers matching. Primarily, the engine block stamp and drive train. Do a search on the forum or try Google / Yahoo also. There will be some pics as to where you should look.

Good luck,
Dino

The Corvette Black Book lists 3914678 as the 327 block. It also shows all '68 VIN numbers begin with 194. The 4th digit is a 3 for coupes and a 6 for convertibles. The 5th, 6th and 7th digits show to be 78S for all '68s. The rest is the unique serial number for each car. Hope this helps.

My restoration guide shows 3914460 is an early 327/300. The above must be the later one. See if the last 5 numbers on the vin are on the pad in front of the passenger head.
