Default Busted petcock

Well this weekend I took the car to a local alignment shop to get it aligned after the front end rebuild and engine clean up. All went well until I got home and saw all the coolant coming off the car.

It turns out I should have replaced the heater hoses when I had everything out. So off I go get the hoses and replace them. Now I have to get out the water I filed up the radiator with. Now you know how I broke the petcock off.

When everything was out I took the radiator to get tested and painted. The shop said the radiator was rescored sometime with a different type core but that it should be fine for a while. Well it needs to come out again and I do not want to do this again. So I called Dewitts yesterday and a new Aluminum direct fit painted black is on the way, Thanks Tom

Anyway what a pain in the ***

Yep, pulling the RAD is a PITA. If it wasn't for that damn shroud... The aluminum radiator is so much lighter and easier to install then OEM.

No question about it, the radiator replacement is one PITA job.

You want to talk about a PITA? My 82 doesn't have a petcock, it has a large bolt in the bottom of the radiator. Well on mine, it is coroded closed and no way am I going to spin that thing off. You can feel the metal move when you try to undo it. I just remove the lower hose when I need to service the system. Now that is a PITA!

Ya there are a lot of threads out there about just taking off the bottom hose to drain, but I was in a rush. It also didn't help that I put on the correct elbow type drain for this stupid thing.

I will be draining it from the hose for now on though.
