Default radiator question

I recieved my new rad. and it is nothing like the one that came with my 68 327 4spd non air, basket case, but from my research (looking at pics) it seems I have an auto rad. not a man, any help here would be greatly appreciated

depends on who you got it from....

a lot of companies make a "one size fits all" rad that you have you shoe horn in there.

If its dewitts or some of the others at the top then it will go right in. You get what you pay for, and if it is dewitt then I know he will make it right if there is a mistake.

ever consider you have the wrong rad to begin with?

Just a question

In general its like this, 68 had many running changes. 68 manual no ac radiators are aluminum and shaped like midyear SB radiators with the two locating pins on the bottom. They would have had metal shrouds. 68 with AC had Copper-brass radiators with the side tank strap mounting and had fiberglass shrouds.

After 40 years, your car has been at the mercy of Bubba and the sands of time. An original big block car would have had the large radiator - similar to that used with automatics

What about the tranny line inlets for the auto ? Is that what you are talking about? Is that what your radiator has on it so you guess it is for an automatic ?

1968 used a "one year only" core support and to make matters worse they are not being reproduced. The BB & SB suport were different but you can easly change one to the other pretty easy, so if you find the right year but wrong motor, buy it anyway.

The two types of radiators were, small block with no options

or the SB with AC, SB with Auto, and the BB engine

This one was originally copper/brass and we replace it with aluminum

Tom,
thanks for the pics the lower pic is the one that came with my car when I ordered my new rad from a local supply store I ordered a man. trans rad. and when I got it home much to my supprise it was not the same so looking at my rad. support it will not support the new man. style rad. so my next move will be to get the auto/ac style, looks like Bubba has been busy with this car , a bit of clarity too is that I bought this car as a BASKET CASE literally 2 years ago, and have made great progress putting it back together one stage aty a time with the help of the CF, and guys like you Tom

OK, but he asked about a SB and obviously he had the original radiator for the 68 SB. What he got was either a BB or AC, automatic SB.

He currently has a 327 with 4spd, and ordered a radiator for that configuration. The old radiator is like Tom Dewitts picture #2 - the one used with automatics, big blocks, and AC cars.

I am sure I have the "incorrect" core support.it looks identical to the one in the 08 paragon cat. (great illustrations) pg 66 for the copper rad./ BB, SB auto and no provision for the 2 round mtg. pins Bubba was using the wrong rad too a 26" wide core way too wide , only God knows how he mounted this behemoth can you picture it? because the rad. support has no mods to it and is surprisingly in excellent unmolested condition

Unless you are concerned with originality , stay with that support and get the matching radiator. Then you can use the plastic shroud and have a much better cooling system.

Sorry, It was not easy to determine what he had from the first post description. Now, with the last post, I see what he has.

no need to apologize, originality is not my goal, and I too was not sure what I really had until I started looking into buying a new rad. this whole project has been a lesson on patience, not rushing through it and trying to enjoy the journey
