Default Intake Manifolds

On my '80 L-48 the intake manifold has the EGR valve. I was wanting to put an Edelbrock Endurashine Manifold on in place of the stock. All that Edelbrock has is for Non-EGR. I have not had the time to take a look at it but can I go with the Non-EGR manifold and just block the hoses going to it? Will this mess up the performance or running of the motor? Thanks all!!

As long as your state allows it since the car is over 25 years old (some states still mandate no changes...ever), go ahead and make the change. Actually, go ahead and remove the rest of the lines and clean up the underhood appearance.

It may actually run better and cooler since the emissions equipment probably isn't running optimally anyway.

I installed an Edelbrock intake on the '78 L82 I owned...no EGR, removed the rest of the related parts and it ran better and 10 degrees cooler.

I say go for it.

I have a 79, L-82. I removed the EGR valve and related parts. Looks better and runs better.

I would think some minor tuning to the carb and timing might be in order. The previous owner of my vette removed as much of the smog equipment as he could and blocked alot of ports, and the car ran like crap. One of the reasons I'm rebuilding it.

GM designed that cars performance based on that EGR being operational, I would think some minor tweaking would be needed.

the factory cam was designed to run with the egr -very lean. the egr lowered the oxygen % and if you remove the erg valve it might ping! kind of a good reason to upgrade the cam.

my intake is an iron '85 work truck intake. that year commercial vehicles did not require egr valve. i used it because it was the flatest i could find for free and the engine builder told me it would not be a bottleneck until i got above 350hp. ....and i could run my stock carb and linkage
