TH2004R Drive Gear Questions.
In regards to a drive gear in a TH2004R, will the one IN my transmission be color coded the same as the ones on the BTO website?
Their calculator shows I need a 13 tooth drive gear and a 31 gear driven gear. Mine came with a 27, is black, which matches their site. I can't really tell for sure by looking in the side of the casing if my drive gear is the same or not.
How hard is it to get that drive gear out?

I THINK it has 27 teeth also, and I tried something like 31 teeth, but knew in a short while it was not right.....
can't beleive it, but when it says 90 and I"m barely keeping up with traffic, yup, in FACT it IS 90, and there are no gas price concerns....yet.....

Thanks Gene. My driven gear is a 27 black, and the drive gear appears to be an old yellow color...like old heat worn plastic. It doesn't seem to match either of the two similar colors on the website.
I wish there were a way to count the teeth without removing the drive gear.
My tire size is 235-60-15. I put that in their calculator with the 3.08 rear gears I have, and it told me to install 13 & 31 gears.
If I can get away with not changing the drive gear I would prefer that, obviously, but I also want my speedo to be accurate.
strange but true, cruising at 90 with maybe passing a few, and more passing US, but there I am and wife did a calculation from a known point as she didn't believe 90 either, and sure enough....
90....

Thanks, I posted there too.
I guess I just want to know if there is a way to count the teeth without having to take the pan and gov. cover off.

No, you can't. The color is misleading, and you cannot count the teeth from outside the casing. I actually found checking the drive gear is a lot easier than I thought. I have my TH2004R on an engine stand so it was easy for me to flip it upside down and do this.
Note: I need to have a 13 tooth drive gear. The stock 13 tooth would have been white, and the new ones are green. Mine ended up being the 13 like I needed but it certainly isn't white anymore.
This is the TH2004R with the pan removed.

The cover near the tail shaft with 4 bolts is the governor cover.

Remove the 4 bolts and the drive gear comes out with the governor.

The drive gear is clipped on, and the shaft CAN come out of the governor but it will stay put if you don't pull on it.

To count the teeth, the large bell shaped part, start where there is a plastic molding dot, count that tooth first, and go around until you get to the same dot. Mine was 13 tooth, which is what I needed.

After, I just slid the gear and governor back in the transmission and the cover rested flat again. I replaced the 4 bolts, hand tightened them, and put the pan back on.
That's all there was to it and I don't have to buy a $50 gear.
