You will probably need a different bellhousing for an 11 inch clutch (168 tooth flywheel).
If your 383 requires an non-neutral balance flywheel, there are 153 tooth flywheels made with that balance - I have had a good 20 lb steel flywheel from McLeod.

also check the bolt holes on the block where the starter mounts, to verify it has bolt holes tapped to accommodate starters used for 153 or 168 tooth flywheel. an oem (diagonal mount) starter designed for a 168 tooth flywheel will not work with a smaller dia. flywheel and vice versa. I believe there are aftermarket starters which will work both.

'63 Corvette has a one year only setup on the bellhousing/front bearing retainer area so watch out for that. The '64 and up SBC C2 will be for the 10.5" clutch setup that uses the 153 tooth flywheel. Those are all 327's and none of them ever had a 11" clutch with the 168 tooth flywheel from the factory.

Oops, I did type it backwards.
The small diameter is also sometimes referred to as 12.75 inches, but my GM book says 12.88, the difference probably having to do with the mean tooth diameter versus the overall diameter.
