I pull up to a stop sign yesterday and hear a loud snap bang sound in my 76' make a right hand turn and wow! it doesnt want to straighten out. Drove several blocks, pull over look under the hood and the upper A arm is broken! Of course the wheel is canted and about to fall off. Thank God I wasnt on the interstate which was where I was headed. $183.00 for 5 mile tow (on dollies) I'm wondering now if I should have the left side replaced as well or if this was just a fluke. Car has 60,000mi on it and shocks were replaced 7 mos ago.

Wow, that would be scary. At what point did it break? Did it come apart at the balljoint, or where the arm connects to the car? Check out the other side good, it may be a Corvette thing, but seems like a fluke to me. Cheers

Looking down at it, it broke where the arm is attached toward the radiator side.

Do you have any pics? I've seen photos of lower A-arm brackets tearing loose from the frame but I can't recall seeing any upper arms breaking. Are the retaining bolts in place at the end of the crossbar and are the nuts still on the frame studs?
