For the melling M55A pump is there a pickup tube to match a stock depth pan with a bolt on strap support that would stop any chance of
the pickup tube coming out. anyone have the part number.
I used (I think) the 10552 melling pump, it was the 10 percent over stock pump. It has a pickup that is attached via two small bolts vice the pressed in pick up. Problem is that it is not adjustable. You need to measure the depth of your oil pan and purchase the correct length pick up. For my stroker, the fit was perfect for a 7 1/2 in pan with a 1/4 in space.
The last one I bought was a Summit pump, std pressure w/welded pickup. No problems in my GM pan feeding my OEM-clearances 350. Measured 3/8" off bottom of sump after checking with gaskets installed.

I have the 10552 melling pump, I was trying to find a screen for someone overseas they have decided to just take my weld suggestion.
thanks for the help though.
I use a a little Loctite Sleeve Retainer and the right tool for installation and I have never (ever) had one come out. Just my opinion.
Think about how many SBCs go 100K+ miles with the factory pressed pickup...
In 1969 I bought a brand new 69 Z/28 at 18,000 miles late one night I was flying down the freeway as fast as the little 302 would push the brick for arodynamics 69 camaro 135 MPH the oil pressure gauge was down on the console I failed to see the flickering gauge in time the pickup tube had came out fell into the pan, the car had the standard for the time 36 month 50,000 mile warranty, Cliff Peck chevy in little rock ARK. ended up putting in a new crankshaft two new rods in it, they did not let it leave there shop without a brazed in pickup tube. In 1957 my grandfather bought a new 1957 buick the good looking one with the split rear windows pickup tube fell into the pan dealer replaced the engine.
This is why even in the 60s the ragazines you picked up off the self they were warning people about pressed in pickup tubes telling people to braze the pickup tube. Of course today with the mig welder its just a matter of a couple quick easy tack welds or you can buy a pump with a bolt on screen to fix the pressed in bullcrap junk.
